In this instance seeing the beauty of flowers blooming, surrounded by the rich greens of life and the incredible sensation of the smells, scents, and sounds of nature. The splendor of the scene as a whole and the wonder of the changing colours and the detail as I step closer, all momentary and fleeting as the light shifts and shimmers bringing the scene to life.

This painting is inspired by a peaceful morning spent walking through my friend’s rose garden with her on a hot summer’s day. The smells, sounds, colours and shimmering heat flooded my senses and left me with a sense of wellbeing and an appreciation for the beautiful abundance of nature and the blessing of friendship and connection. Painted with a renewed appreciation for people and places that remind me of what is important, what is real, lasting and authentic.

"Beauty for ashes", is inspired by the King Protea that grows in the Western Cape, majestic and magnificent, it stands proudly showing off an array of soft pinks and creams, set against grey green leaves and deep indigo shadows. These gentle colours stand in stark contrast to the extreme hardiness of the flower with its unique ability to survive wildfires and, in these extreme conditions, to generate new life. These contradictions and the many layers that make up the reality of not only this flower but our very existence are what fascinate and intrigue me, as I explore ways to visually express the diversity of the world around me.

Inspired by the promise of the early morning mists before the day and our reality take shape. This painting captures the fluid changes and soft, gentle movement of the night rolling away as our dreamworld evaporates and the morning light pushes through. Moments suspended in time.A large canvas created full of layers of colour and movement.
A vibrant painting, inspired by the richness and beauty of nature. The layers of colour boldly and energetically applied with a palette knife with hints of colours and detail peeping through, create a painting brimming with life and full of the sensations of nature!
