Be still

“Be still” is a large painting on Masonite board. It is part of a series of paintings inspired by places, people or moments of significance because of their unique and wonderful ability to spark a deeply felt response. I have always loved being on the coast, next to the ocean with the sound of the waves, the smell of the sea air, the fresh sea breeze, the richness of sea life below the surface and above and the ever-changing colours and moods of the water. All these sensations form part of my own visual exploration as I look for ways to express my sense of awe and wonder at the richness of creation. “Be still” is about taking a moment, pausing to reflect, taking note, and enjoying those things which we sometimes take for granted. There is so much beauty around us, if we choose to stop, look, and see.
